An Apple A Day with Family First Health
Community health center shares health tips for National Health Literacy Month and National Apple Month.
Central PA (September 27, 2012) An apple a day is the start to good health. What’s next? Being an informed patient. Family First Health, a community health center in York and Adams Counties, will be celebrating National Health Literacy Month, which is also National Apple Month, with a series of events called “Starts With Apples.” Health literacy is the ability to understand health information and to use that information to make good decisions about your health and medical care. Family First Health wants to spread the message that good health can start with an apple a day, but ultimately you need to be an active partner in your health care to be well.
On October 16, 18 and 20, Family First Health will be setting up apple handout stations in downtown York, Gettysburg and Hanover (respectively). Passersby will receive a free apple and information on how to make good decisions in their health care. Apple handout station dates and locations are:
- York – October 16, 12-2pm – Continental Square and Central Market
- Gettysburg – October 18, 4-6pm – YWCA (outside entrance)
- Hanover – October 20, 8-10am – Hanover Farmers Market
The public can visit www.startswithapples.com for more information on becoming health literate and working with their healthcare team. Follow Family First Health on Facebook for tips on being an informed patient all month long https://www.facebook.com/FamilyFirstHealth.
