Dr. Usow joined Family First Health in 2023. He received his Bachelor of Science in Zoology from University of Florida, received his Bachelor of Arts in History with a concentration in History of Science, Technology and Medicine from University of Florida, and received his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Usow completed his Family Medicine Residency Program at UPMC McKeesport.
Dr. Usow chose to pursue a career in healthcare because he always looked up to his pediatrician, the late Morton Schwartzman, MD. No matter how busy Dr. Schwartzman seemed, his concern for Dr. Usow and his siblings was genuine. In college, Dr. Usow majored in the history of science, technology and medicine, and developed a deep appreciation for the physicians who came before him. Family Medicine is about problem solving and understanding a patient’s individual values, beliefs, and family circumstances. He enjoys gathering that information so he can develop a personalized treatment plan with his patients.
Dr. Usow grew up in Miami, attended college and medical school in Florida, and completed his residency in McKeesport, PA. For 9 years he practiced in rural and underserved communities in Florida, then 7 years in rural York County, PA. His parents are a retired teacher and general contractor. He has two sons, and even though they were born in Florida they love snow. He has four nephews and one niece. His favorite team is the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Dr. Usow enjoys reading, traveling, playing and listening to music, and watching his sons wrestle when he is not seeing patients.
